China is a very big country and there have been many imports, some of which have been sold on after import, which is partly why it has taken so long to produce this first volume. Very best attempts have been made to trace, re-identify and include all eligible horses. Some imports are known to be in China but their owners have not yet applied for registration, these horses are pending registration as are any foals they have produced since being imported. A list is included in this volume for reference purposes only. When documentation is completed for each horse, it will be included in the next volume. According to WAHO rules this studbook is in English, however the Chinese names of all foals born in China, and of those imports for which the owner has asked for a Chinese translation of the name, are included in both the Alphabetical and Numerical Index.

All Broodmares with Produce entered in this volume are listed alphabetically by name, and the foals are shown underneath each mare's entry with the data arranged as follows:-

For added interest to all owners and breeders, the strain, which traces the female line back to the foundation mare, is included for each broodmare and each sire. According to Bedouin tradition, foals automatically always inherit the strain of their dams.

The protocol used in this volume is that the named breeder of each foal is the owner of the dam at the time of the foal's birth. Embryo Transfer is permitted, with no limit set on the number of foals per mare per year, so in the case that a mare has more than one foal born in the same year, they may be ET foals.

All Sires with Progeny entered in this volume are also listed by year of birth and alphabetically by name within each year, the foals are shown underneath each stallion's entry with the data arranged as follows:-

If a stallion is domiciled overseas, as in the case of imports in utero and foals that are produced by the use of imported semen, the symbol § is used after the stallion's name and country of birth ISO Code, to denote that the particular stallion is not registered in this volume.

Foals imported in utero are shown under their sires and dams with the notation (i.i.u.) after the name, they are not additionally shown in the Imported Horses sections of this volume. Imported horses are issued with new registration numbers starting with CHN, these are shown in their individual entries. Foals born in China are also issued with registration numbers, these are listed in the numerical index at the end of this volume. Passports are issued to all foals born and registered in China. Imported horses retain their original passports. For all imports and within the pedigrees of imports, the ISO Code of the country of birth is included after the names of the horses, name, however these ISO codes do not form part of the registered name. For all imports, the colour, year of birth and original registration details of the sire and dam are also included.

All the breeding stock in China has been DNA typed and parentage verification by DNA is mandatory for all foals born in China. Foals are also microchipped.

Breeders and owners are requested to examine the entries of their horses in this studbook and to notify the registration authority of any errors, in order that these may be corrected.
